DIGITAL BUSINESSES, or any organization, compete online for the short attention span of customers.

They could be looking for anything that may catch their fancy and be convinced to stay for more than a few seconds on a website. That “more than a few seconds” could spell a consummated transaction for a company.

A video, an online game, a movie, streaming movie or song, reservations and booking, payment transactions, etc.

Or customers or users are only updating their social media account. Just the same, a website that loads fast and smooth wins the competition.

Here’s what these business organizations are up against, according to IPC, an ePLDT organization. Something that content providers must think about, or even grapple with.

  • A one second delay in the load time of digital page can result in 7 percent reduction in conversion.
  • One second delay in load time of a website means a loss in conversion.
  • 46 percent of users are not to return to a poorly performing website.
  • 73 percent of consumers do not go back to a website if it does not load in their devices.
  • Businesses have only five seconds to engage a customer before they leave their website.

The plus side: a page that improves in load time from eight to two seconds boosts conversion by 74 percent.

Ranged against that is the reality on the ground: the Philippines has the slowest internet speed in this part of the world.

To provide solution for this host of problems, IPC and Singapore-based Conversant Solutions through Pagecom, its local partner, have struck deal to provide a major boost in content delivery network (CDN) service in the Philippines.

For those who don’t have an idea about CDN, here’s what Webopedia.com says:

“CDN is short for content delivery network…a system of distributed servers (network) that deliver pages and other Web contents to a user, based on the geographic locations of the user, the origin of the web page and the content delivery server.”

What CDN does is speed up the delivery of content of websites with high traffic and websites with global reach. So, the closer the CDN server is to the user in terms of geography (or location), the faster the content will be delivered to the user.P_20181121_110917_1IPC Converge Data Services, Inc., and ePLDT firm, is an internet data center, telecommunications and cloud services company. Conversant is a privately held technology company with strong regional presence in Asia.

Their partnership offers Philippine enterprises the country’s first local CDN service. The IPC Contentcast CDN promises to be four to five times more economical than other subscription-based CDN offerings.

“CDN services are highly critical for organizations that require accelerated or real-time delivery of digital content and transactions online such as financial, e-commerce, and broadcast entertainment sectors (e.g. online gaming, video streaming,” IPC said in a statement.

It added that whether a business is big or small that is serving global markets, or mobilizing personnel using the internet, using CDN will give them the edge in providing their customers or users with an enhanced online experience that translates to accessibility and responsiveness of their website and web-based applications.

It’s what the partnership offers to Philippine enterprises, a tool they can use without the attendant investment in special hardware equipment, maintenance, and other related operational expenses. Savings, in short.

Also present at the event was Cheong Kong Wai, executive chairman and CEO for Conversant Solutions. He noted further what CDN does for IPC.

“This strategic alliance allows IPC to provide CDN services to its customers by leveraging on the reach of scale of our network, through our SwiftFederation Partners. We are excited to share IPC’s commitment in helping its customers to grow and drive their brand forward in this increasingly connected world,” he pointed out.P_20181121_111748_1Before the entry of the two organizations’ CDN service, De Leon said enterprises in the country has few options available to them for their content delivery. “But those are not local; they are residing abroad so it takes time to access the services they provide to be able for a company  in the Philippines to access it and service their customers.”

Now, he added, the difference is that IPC’s CDN service is locally-hosted and available.

“This capability will actually enhance our customers’ ability to deal with their own customers because content is closer to where the action is and servicing their customers now will become faster and more relevant,” de Leon assured.

He pointed out that accessing the websites of IPC’s customers will now be better with a local CDN service provider. (EKU)
