(SDN) — Amid the sizzling heat during 2022 Ramadan — and flooding in parts of Mindanao — it is business as usual in the Bangsamoro region.
The busy days is exemplified by the line agencies of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) under the leadership of Chief Minister Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim.
Like the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) where work days continue.
On April 21, 2022, the MILG headed by Interior Minister Naguib G. Sinarimbo with United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Gustavo Gonzales convened and co-chaired the first meeting of the Mindanao Humanitarian Team.
Covered in the meeting is a discussion of the MILG and UN Humanitarian Office in the Philippines, among others, in addressing several humanitarian situations in the Bangsamoro region. The humanitarian issues they discussed included the recent flooding in the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, two of the BARMM component areas.
Comprising the Bagnsamoro autonomous region are Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi provinces, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi as well as 63 villages designated as Special Geographic Area (SGA) in North Cotabato province (which itself is not part of BARMM).
The 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) gave birth to the BARMM through the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).
It could be noted that the UN has different agencies which have long been helping in the Mindanao process, including the different administrations that governed the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), including its successor, the BARMM.
In another activity led by the MILG, over 400 barangay (village) captains/chairmen coming Maguindanao’s 36 municipalities participated in the April 20 Orientation-Briefing on the MILG-MFBM (Ministry of Finance and Budget and Management) Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2022-01 focused on the release of shares of barangay local government units (BLGUs) from taxes collected in the BARMM.
The meeting was a collaboration of the MILG, MFBM (headed concurrently by Chief Minister Ebrahim), and the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) headed by Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal.
