DOST 2-Day Conference on Artificial Intelligence Kicks Off in Davao City, March 14

DAVAO CITY, 13th March 2023 (SDN) — Needless to say, artificial intelligence (AI) will take center stage in the 1st Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Conference and Workshop 2023 here in the city of the South on March 14-15.

The Department of Science and Technology through its Innovation Council, the Philippine Council on Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology (DOST-PCIEERD) organized the event, which is on its inaugural run.

Headed by Executive Director Dr. Enrico “Eric” C. Paringit, the conference seeks “to raise public awareness of the benefits and potential uses of artificial intelligence and robotics in addressing urgent national issues.”

A high-level battery of speakers from both the public and private sectors, foreign and local personalities, will participate in the conference at Acacia Hotel (Agdao) with a theme revolving around “AI Pinas: Driving Transformation and Impact in the Digital Age”.

For the event’s opening on Tuesday, Paringit and Dr. Lyre Anni Murao, chancellor, University of the Philippines (UP)-Mindanao, will deliver the Opening Remarks; for the Welcome Message, Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III, the regional director of DOST XI, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, and DOST Undersecretary for Research & Development (R&D) Leah J. Buendia.

DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr. will deliver the Keynote Message.

For the morning Plenary Session, attendees will listen to Global Trends in AI, with

Nacianceno, Chief Senior Research Specialist, Emerging Technology Development Division, for the Opening Remarks and Introduction of Guests and Participants; Workshop per Group on Priority Topics for Funding in CY 2025 (Review and Updating of the AI Roadmap); Presentation and Discussion of the Proposed Priority Topics per Group; Rationale and Mechanics of the Directed Project Proposal Workshop; Presentation and Discussion of the Proposed Topics/Concept; Closing Messages by Dr. Jose Ildefonso U. Rubrico, and Eng’r Ninaliza H. Escorial, PCIEERD deputy executive director.
