COTABATO CITY β To strengthen commitment for digitalization in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the ππ€πππ‘ππ―ππ£π π-ππ€π«ππ§π£ππ£ππ ππ€π§ π©ππ πΌππππ‘ππ§ππ©ππ ππ§π€π«ππ¨ππ€π£ π€π πππ§π«ππππ¨ (πππΌππ) ππ§π€ππ§ππ’ has facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) and 9 local government units (LGUs) in the region.
The LGUs are:
- Municipality of Maluso, Province of Basilan
- Maimbung Municipal Government, Province of Sulu
- Municipal Government of Omar, Province of Sulu
- Cotabato City Government, Maguindanao del Norte
- LGU-Paglat, Province of Maguindanao del Sur
- Municipality of South Upi, Province of Maguindanao del Sur
- LGU-Upi, Province of Maguindanao del Norte
- City Government of Marawi, Lanao del Sur
- Muncipality of Wao, Province of Lanao del Sur.
The MOA signing with MILG marks the commitment of the LGUs to institutionalize, adapt, and implement the #DigitalBangsamoro program within their localities.
These 9 LGUs will join the initial 12 LGUs that have confirmed their commitment to roll out the LeAPS Program in March.
Geared towards supporting the Digital Bangsamoro vision of the BARMM government, #LeAPSph is a flagship program of MILG in partnership with UNDP Philippines. The program supports the Office of the Chief Minister, BARMM ministries, and select LGUs through the transformative power of data, digitalization, and people-centered governance.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Areaβs (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted βYesβ in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. β via MILG (β)
