(SDN) — Thousands of students are scheduled to compete for the Access to Higher and Modern Education-Scholarship Program (AHME-SP) 5th Cohort slots in various examination centers in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on July 14, 2024.

The AHME examination is for Academic Year 2024-2025. Of the 2,930 applicants who qualified, only 1,400 slots are available.

AHME, which may also stand for “Al-Haj Murad Ebrahim”, is a flagship scholarship assistance initiative of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The first batch of the AHME beneficiary students graduated this school year, a total of 1,400 finishers many of whom would not have been able to complete their studies without the highly needed scholarship program. AHME pays scholars Php60,000 for every semester but have to maintain a certain level of grade.

BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Balawag “Al-Haj Murad” Ebrahim lauded the graduates for their accomplishment.

“This is a testament to our mission to producing Bangsamoro professionals in all areas of BARMM. We stand by our promise to uphold and to reform the system to give access to quality service for social justice and every day we strive to make effective use of this promise,” Ebrahim, chair of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) said.

Implementing the scholarship program is the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) headed by Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal and one of the 15 primary governance organs of the Bangsamoro government.

AHME-SP is also known as the Bangsamoro IQ Scholar, and complements existing higher education scholarship, subsidy, loan, and similar programs implemented in the BARMM.

Target beneficiaries are qualified senior high school and ALS (Alternative Learning System) graduates in the region. Priority is granted to qualified former combatants, their children, orphans, or surviving spouses in line with post-conflict rehabilitation and development efforts of the Bangsamoro Government.

Coming with the scholarship grant is a provision for Php60,000.00 per student per academic year to a total of 1,400 qualified student beneficiaries in the whole region.

Iqbal has spoken about AHME’s objectives, which revolves around creating “opportunities for the youth to gain access to quality higher education, to empower them to build a better future for themselves, and, in turn, to contribute to the growth and development of the Bangsamoro region.”

The BARMM education chief has time and again enunciated the Bangsamoro government’s motto in education that “No Bangsamoro learner shall be left behind.”
