COTABATO CITY (SDN) — More school armchairs are being distributed by the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE, one of the 15 primary ministries of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Headed by Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, the MBHTE has been distributing armchairs to various schools in the Bangsamoro region, apparently part of its initiatives to make learning conducive to learners.

It goes without saying that armchairs are very important to students because standing or sitting on the floor is not a correct mode of studying.

The distribution on August 29 is under the “Improve Quality Education in Bangsamoro Land,” also known as Project IQBAL, which has successfully distributed MBHTE-designed armchairs in Lanao del Sur Division II in the following schools as recipients:

Also on August 29, the MBHTE through Project IQBAL distributed armchairs to Warehouse Bowlingan, Maguindanao del Sur Division.

This initiative is aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the region.

The following school recipients are:

A separate distribution of the MBHTE-designed armchairs under Project IQBAL was held last August 20 at three schools in Sultan Dumalondong District, Lanao del Sur Division II:

It is safe to say that since 2019 the MBHTE has already distributed thousands of armchairs to schools in the Bangsamoro region.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. With the recent plebiscite at SGA, the BARMM now has eight new municipalities as residents voted “Yes”.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities (plus eight newly established under the SGA: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
