MANDALUYONG CITY, December 11, 2024 (SDN) — “I am not the problem!”

The problems of the country are “kahirapan, kagutuman at korapsyon” (poverty, hunger and corruption).

Embattled Vice President Inday Sara Duterte has time and again emphasized this as she conveyed to members of the news media, (both national and foreign journalists) as she gave in to persistent request of reporters for a press conference, though apparently unscheduled.

Before her Q&A with the reporters, the Vice President tendered a sumptuous lunch for the Quad Media representatives at the Office of the Vice President (OVP), along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.

After the lunch treat, Duterte table-hopped, gamely engaging each table to a lively conversation, lightly though, and off the record, whatever spoken was left on the table. Laughters permeated each table as reporters, like ordinary human beings they are, asked silly questions, like her favorite song on Spotify, favorite movie, local movie gossips, whether she was parentally engaged with her husband (no, she said it was her husband who was first smitten with her when they first met), who was her first boy friend, and many other inane and innocuous questions thrown at her.

The Vice President heartily laughed with the reporters, her face aglow without a trace of the litany of issues forced by lawmakers on her. You’d think she was not carrying the weight of a Congress seeminly hell-bent on pushing her down on her knees. She says it’s “All for 2028,” referring to the presidential polls that’s still four years ahead.

“Yes, that’s what they are trying to do,” she notes, when asked how public opinion is being manipulated against her, “turn public opinion (against me). That’s a common strategy in politics, black propaganda, and everything.”

The Vice President hastens to add about the presidential election in 2028.

“I am not yet a candidate. Right now, I am the Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, working. I am not yet a candidate sobI don’t know if this will affect me.”

Duterte said that she may make her decision in the last quarter of 2026 when any presidential aspirant will make a move.

She said they want to remove her political clout, remove her from the race, and, of course, remove her from office. “These are attacks to remove me from the (presidential) race, and remove me from office.”

Recall that the Vice President is presently facing a gauntlet of issues, chief among them about the intelligence funds she had when she was secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) and as the Vice President of the Philippines.

She reiterated that she already did submitted documents to the Commission on Audit (COA), the proper agency to do so and not Congress for they are intelligence funds to may compromise mational security and those who were involved in gathering information.

The Vice President also asserted at the press conference that the funds were approved by the Office of the President (OP).

Duterte also allayed any worry that she may leave the country to escape her tormentors. She stressed she has no plans of disappearing, especially that she does not want to see abandon children.

She made this statement when asked what if a warrant of arrest is served on her, what she would do.

“If I maybe detain, I want to be able to see my kids, my children. So, I have no plans to leave the country.”

She said she has been saying, “I am not the problem, but poverty in the Philippines, hunger and all this corruption.” (♡)
