QUEZON CITY (SDN) — Disqualify political dynasty clans from the National and Local Elections (NLE) on May 12, 2025.
Also disqualify what a socialist group described as “fake” party-list groups from getting seats in the House of Representatives.
The Philippine group, named the Kilusan ng Manggagawa Socialista, Inc., voiced this call today, December 27, here at the Kamuning Bakery & Cafe Media Forum, Quezon City, Metro Manila, in a press conference they conducted with reporters and bloggers present to cover their news media event.
Initially, from the list of senatorial aspirants, the group called on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to disqualify re-electionist Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr., embattled Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, and brothers Erwin and Ben Tulfo.
Representing the Soclialist group, Adonis Escueta, Council member; Jonel Bucad, chair, Education Committee; and Mercedes Villasin, secretary general, jointly made the call, saying the list of aspirants they wanted disqualified is only the first of many which they will reveal at a later time.
They also made known that on January 3, 2025, they will go to the Supreme Court to file a petition for their disqualification.
Villasin revealed that their group will also mount protests to tell the Filipino public their list of senatorial aspirants their group will work for Comelec to disqualify in the 2025 midterm elections.
Grupong Socialista urges Comelec to order courts to finish cases of candidates
She said they will for the disqualification of Revilla, Quiboloy (who is facing cases), and the two Tulfo brothers who are seeking to join in the Senate their brother Sen. Raffy Tulfo.
In the situation of the brothers Erwin and Ben, Erwin Tulfo had earlier said they will leave it to the voters if they want to have two or three Tulfos in the Senate.
Erwin Tulfo, former secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also said that unless there is a law on anti-dynasty, they will push their running for the Senate.
In a related development, the 1987 Constitution prohibits dynasties but the problem is there’s still no specific law implementing the prohibition.
They added that they do not want the case of Alice Guo, former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, to be repeated who, they cited, turned out to be not genuine Filipino. However, it can be recalled that Guo, who was later disqualified by the Comelec, has been insisting she is Philippine citizen.
He emphasized that their Socialist group will petition for the removal of the names of the four aspirants for the Senate and others which they did not name yet.
“On January 6, government is set to print ballots for the May elections. We are hoping the candidates we identified will respond to our call before January 3, 2025. We are hoping they will give importance to our call,” the group says in a written statement provided to reporters and bloggers at the press event.
The group said if they do not respond positively, this would force them to file a petition with the Comelec to boot their names out from the official list of candidates in May 2025.
On the other hand, the group added that they are working independently, and that they are not endorsing any bets for the coming polls.
Villasin said their opposition versus Quiboloy, leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) is because of the allegations against him, including abuses of women. The KOJC leader’s people have been defending him and professing his innocence.
Candidates who were defeated in the May 2022 elections have resorted to running as bets of party-list groups next year, the Socialista leader pointed out.
“Comelec should exorcise the list of candidates on May 12, 2025, before they print ballots,” Villasin said.
The Socialist group also called for the aspirants to undergo neuro-psychiatric tests to determine their mental wellbeing and qualifications.
“Ayaw namin sa mga balahura, magnanakaw, at rapists at handang iharap sa Comelec ang aming pagtutol sa kanilang kandidatura (We do not like the vulgar, thieves, and rapists and we are ready to bring to the Comelec our opposition),” the group makes clear, obviously speaking in a general sense about bets in 2025.
“We will file our disqualification petition with the Supreme Court on January 3, 2025, and after that we will reveal the list of candidates that should be disqualified, including party-lists that should be disqualified,” the Socialist group assures.
In their written statement they added:
“We are calling on the Comelec to order all the country’s courts to conclude their hearings on all the cases that involved candidates before election day in May. This way, the Commission will be able to help reduce the entry to the government of those who are not deserving as leaders of the country,” the Socialista group emphasizes. (♡)
