BARANGAY KALAWAAN, Pasig City, May 09, 2025 (SDN) — Led as usual by Ate Sarah Discaya, her Team Kaya This slate for the May 12 polls continued barnstorming in the city’s communities.
Discaya, a self-made businesswoman-philanthropist, is the lineup’s candidate for mayor, a neophyte in the political arena, but full of hopes and plans through programs and projects, and services lined up for her beloved Pasigueños, given the opportunity to serve them as a public official.
Her inspiring rags-to-riches struggles (with her husband Kuya Curlee) to get out of a damning poverty has been a staple of her campaign speeches, remarks, sending the message that if they were able to escape through sheer hard work and sacrifices their sorry predicament early in their marriage, ordinary Pasigueños can do it, too!
She is a native Pasigueño, having been born in Barangay Bambang, where she and Kuya Curlee built the foundation of their business, as builder and developer, the Quadruple “A” (a highly coveted badge of excellence) St. Gerrard Construction Contractor and Development Corporation palatial office building, and their huge house. They are proofs the constancy of their striving amidst a gauntlet of challenges had truly brought them remarkable success. A good model, for sure.
But they have remained humble, as shown by their rapport with people on the ground, their hearts still beating for the poor, by giving back through their St. Gerrard Charity Foundation, a messenger of hope for the downtrodden, their own kind, having been so poor that one of Kuya Curlee’s sick brothers died without medical care because they were not able to bring him to the hospital for treatment as they didn’t have the money to do so.
A painful lesson like no other
It’s plain to see that, given the opportunity to serve, such as being mayor of Pasig, yes you guess it right, her number one priority is healthcare. Think of her brother-in-law’s unfortunate passing just because they were poor Pasigueños.
So, if the over 800,000 citizens of the city through the registered voters want and like her to fulfill her goals for them embedded in the Team Kaya This platform, the appropriate action to help her and her slate implement it is on May 12, that’s a mere three days away.
If given that opportunity, she will priotize the construction of a 11-storey new Pasig City Hospital, modern, high-tech medical facility complete with state-of-the-art equipment and devices, and with top notch services to be delivered by medical professionals steeped in caring and taking care of their patients.
She assured that patients will be attended as soon as they arrived at the hospitals and will not be seated on monobloc chairs for three days with their dextrose hanging.
Comfortable beds will await patients, she emphasized, and that Pasigueños do not have to buy their medicines as they will be provided free under A Team Kaya This administration.
Zero billings for Pasig patients
In her campaign sorties, as part of her healthcare objectives, she often mentions two hospitals in South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat provinces in Mindanao that provide hospitalization for free, meaning zero billings for patients. No cashier.
“That’s in Mindanao,” Ate Sarah points out. “We are in Metro Manila. Taguig and Makati are already doing it.” She added that it can be done and institutionalized in Pasig if she wins as city mayor.
Another part of her team’s platform on healthcare is the establishment of a hospital exclusive for senior citizens, their medicines to be delivered house-to-house like being done in Taguig and Makati.
Education is another priority in her slate’s goals for the good of Pasigueños. She felt sorry that attendees in her caucuses had confirmed to her that school supplies, like uniforms, shoes, etc., were being given after the schools had already opened.
In her administration, she assures that support for students will be handed over to then even before the opening of schools. And that her administration will be the youth’s champion as she eyes harnessing their talents and knowledge to help move Pasig forward.
Build high quality elementary and high school facilities to remedy the lack of classrooms which is not conducive to education, especially as classes are divided into three shifts in some city schools, is also in her plans.
A planned new City of Pasig University will provide scholarships not based on their grades but ability because there are students who want to study but their parents can’t afford to send them to school.
Students stand to receive more support as Ate Sarah plans to provide Php500 allowance for all learners in public schools so their parents do not have to worry about “baon” (pocket money) .
Ate Sarah and Team Kaya This multiple building projects:
