BAGUIO CITY, July 4, 2025 — Amid the crisp Cordillera air and under rainy skies, Philippine Heart Association (PHA) National Director III Dr. Iris Garcia has inducted the newly elected officers of the PHA Baguio-Benguet Chapter at the cozy Casa Vallejo’s Hill Station Restaurant on Session Road.
PHA Baguio-Benguet’s fresh crop of officers beamed with pride while reciting their oath.
“The chapter is giving the PHA’s perennial preventive cardiology a major push, pursuing it as a cluster of banner projects — Calorie Conscious Cardiology, No to Vaping and Smoking, Exercise dubbed as ‘STEP-NO!’ (piko) and empowerment of the rural health units (RHUs) and barangay health centers by teaching them the correct ECG interpretation and creating a system where they can call and send us the ECG,” Ojascastro said.
Garcia, concurrent PHA Advocacy chair, represented PHA President Dr. Walid Amil to the PHA Baguio-Benguet changing of the guard.
She quoted Amil as saying: “thank you for stepping up and taking on this role. I hope you lead with both heart and purpose as you help carry on PHA mission and advocacies. Our gratitude as well to our outgoing president, Dr. Dave Padilla and all those who have served with him.”
He added that “the Baguio-Benguet chapter has always been one our most active and committed groups, and we truly appreciate your consistent support in promoting and living up to the goals of PHA.” (/)
