SMX CONVENTION CENTER, Pasay City, October 20, 2025 (SDN) — Vice President Inday Sara Duterte cited today the importance of technology and digital transformation as “our weapon against corruption” even as millions of Filipinos continue to call for the prosecution and imprisonment of solons, government officials, and contractors involved in the billions of pesos highly anomalous nationwide flood control projects.

The Vice President, whose potential opponents in the 2028 presidential polls and detractors have been at their wits’ end trying to derail her already announced plan to run for the country’s highest office, delivered the Keynote Speech for the two-day Philippine Business Conference (PBC) & Tech Expo 2025.

She considered it an honor to share her message at the event organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) led by PCCI President and Consul Enunina V. Mangio.

“Today, we stand at a pivotal moment in our time, when technological evolution creates new environment that changes the way we conduct business, deliver public services, communicate, transfer knowledge, and acquire data,” the Vice President notes.

Among those she cited included the highly disrupted artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and digital media which “significantly influenced and transformed our methods of communication, data collection, and reaching my new markets beyond physical borders.”

In citing technology’s role in equipping the country’s human resources as they workers learn new skills and knowledge, she pointed out that digital transformation benefits are “beyond employment” as the people can be positioned to become future innovators, thinkers, producers, and entrepreneurs.

“Let us hone them to be job creators and economic shapers, bringing in more dynamism to our economy as we diversity our industry mix and create a balance between producers and importers.”

The Vice President, meanwhile, made emphasis on technology’s disrupted role as a strategic tool to achieve better governance and nation-building, and a “tool to facilitate innovation and enhance our capabilities in delivering public services and responding to disasters, crises, and emergencies.”

Duterte then emphasizes. “More importantly, it is our weapon against corruption.”

She said this can be done “as we digitize” along with automating processes, making data and all government transactions seamless, borderless, and transparent” and preventing any means to commit backdoor transactions.

“We take away the power of corrupt leaders to manipulate public funds and capitalize on people’s money for personal interests, greed, and political ambition,” the Vice President underscores.

The head of Converge ICT Solutions, Inc. agreed with Duterte in the power of technology to thwart graft and corruption.

Converge President and CEO Dennis Anthony H. Uy, chairman of the 51st PBC & Expo, noted how other countries are leveraging technology to prevent unscrupulous transactions in government.

“Actually, all over the world, digitalization is already far away from us. You can see efficiency in other countries, how fast. Less human intervention, less corruption, as simple as that,” Uy points out. He is chairman of the PBC and Expo.

The Converge head called on sectors to work together, stressing that “government cannot do it alone.”

As usual in her speeches, the Vice President started off with the universal Islamic salutation “Assalamu alikum” (meaning, Peace be unto you, which Jesus Christ uttered in his Sermon on the Mount to greet his followers).

She ended expressing her thanks to the PCCI, saying “Shukran” (Thank you). — EDD K. Usman(©)
