BARMM’s MBHTE Breaks Ground for New School Building Worth of ₱8.6-M from SDF 2021

COTABATO CITY — The Bangsamoro Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) headed by Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal conducted a groundbreaking ceremony on October 16, 2025, for the construction of a two-storey, four-classroom Public Madrasah in Barangay Tubig-Indangan, Simunul, Tawi-Tawi.

Tawi-Tawi is one of the component provinces of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

This infrastructure project is funded under the Special Development Fund (SDF) 2021, with a total allocation of ₱8,677,500.33.

Once completed, the new Madrasah will provide a conducive learning environment and support the continuing development of Islamic education in the community.

Over in Cotabato City, the MBHTE turned over on October 24, 2025, newly repaired school buildings and classrooms at Mohammad Integrated School in Cotabato City.

The project, funded under the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 General Appropriations Act of the Bangsamoro (GAAB) and amounting to ₱3,755,930.00, aims to provide learners with safer and more conducive learning spaces.

The MBHTE held another groundbreaking ceremony on October 23, 2025, for the construction of a two-storey, four-classroom public madrasah in Barangay Barira, Maguindanao del Norte.

Funded under the General Appropriations Act of the Bangsamoro (GAAB) 2023, the project has a total allocation of ₱10,161,972.84.

Additionally, the MBHTE conducted another groundbreaking ceremony on October 28, 2025, in Barangay Nalinan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, for the construction of a one-storey, two-classroom school building, amounting to ₱5,430,050.

These new infrastructures are expected to enhance access to quality and balanced education for Bangsamoro learners.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages — now eight new municipalities — that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
