Pasig LGU and UP Signs MoU to Strengthen City’s New Population & Dev’t Office for Data-driven Governance

PASIG CITY — Mayor Victor “Vico” Ma. Regis N. Sotto has stepped initiatives of the City Government for the welfare of residents as he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila.

The MoU is between the City Government and the UP Population Institute (UPPI) formalized on February 6 at the People’s Hall of the Office of the City Mayor (OCM).

Signing for UPPI were UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan IIDiliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo Vistan II and UPPI Director and Prof. Elma P. Laguna, and former Pasig councilor Corazon M. Raymundo for the LGU.

“The agreement aims to strengthen the Population and Development (POPDEV) Office, the newest office of the Pasig City Government, in using demographic data towards ‘data-driven and people-centered governance’ through technical assistance from UPPI,” the Pasig Information Office (PIO) emphasizes.

The formalization of the partnership of the Pasig LGU and UPPI signals what could be a fruitful arrangement leveraging digital technology.

To implement or realize the MoU’s objectives, the UPPI will lend its “technical expertise to help capacitate the POPDEV Office and ‘leverage demographic data towards data-driven and people-centered governance’.” — EDD K. USMAN (/)
