(SDN) — The education official of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) attended the turnover of leadership of the Department of Education (DepEd) to Vice President Sara Duterte.
On July 4, 2022 at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City, Metro Manila, Education Secretary Leonor Briones turned over the reins of the DepEd after her six years tenure to her successor.
Former President Rodrigo R. Duterte in 2016 appointed Briones to the DepEd; President Ferdinand R. Marcos. Jr. appointed to the DepEd the Duterte daughter to succeed Briones.

At the turnover ceremony Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, head of the BARMM’s Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), attended the event, accompanied by other MBHTE officials.
His delegation from the MBHTE included Director General for Basic Education Abdullah Salik, Jr., Information and Communications Chief Mobarak Pandi, and Assistant Regional Secretary Atty. Sittie Mariam Balahim.
At the turnover event, the Duterte daughter and Briones gave each other some nice comforting words, according to a report of the Philippine News Agency (PNA).
“Secretary Sara, I have grown very fond of you… I see you as kind, gentle, and caring for children, for the young of Davao, and I believe that you will take care of the young of the Philippines, we have to start in Basic (Education), don’t wait for university, don’t wait for Ph.D., by that time, it will be too late,” Briones said.
