TAGUIG CITY — Three artists have beaten with their designs a field of 1,676 entries to the logo making contest of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
This was learned through a press statement sent to SDN — SciTech and Digital News by the manpower agency producing a pool of globally competitive skilled workers.

Dubbed “Sa TESDA, Lingap ay Maaasahan”, the logo making competition was undertaken by the agency under the leadership of Secretary Suharto T. Mangudadatu, Ph.D., TESDA director general, to search for a logo that best exemplifies the agency’s slogan towards more inclusivity.
Recall that upon his assumption to his post, Mangudadatu, former multi-term governor of the province of Sultan Kudarat, has initiated a strong focus on providing scholarships for the country’s barangays to create a bigger pool of skilled workers with world-class capabilities. He wants more Filipinos, especially coming from the poor sector, to be able to be gainfully employed.
Apparently, with the logo making contest, TESDA seeks to convey Mangudadatu’s message of inclusivity, thereby assure Filipinos that with the everyone is onboard.
The statement of TESDA pointed out that judges of the competition chose three designs with the highest scores. These were the entries of Nichole Destor of Negros Oriental, Mark Aries Reyes of Leyte, and Christoffer Diestro of Maguindanao del Sur, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Each of the winners will receive Php10,000 and a Certificate of Recognition.
Running from July 18 to July 31, 2023, the design competition attracted a total of 1,676 entries.
TESDA said all the best elements from each of the three winning designs were incorporated into one unified logo.
Likewise, the agency reminded the public that the new logo will represent TESDA’s new slogan and guiding principle, “Sa TESDA, Lingap ay Maaasahan”, but will not replace the official corporate logo of the agency.
TESDA is also big in upskilling, reskilling of OFWs
The logo for the new slogan was judged by the following criteria: Originality (30%); relevance to the concept of the new TESDA Slogan (40%); and impact (30%).
Mangudadatu said the agency has successfully reached millions of Filipinos by providing inclusive and free technical vocational education and training (TVET) nationwide in various training modalities.
“The new TESDA slogan demonstrates the agency’s stronger advocacy to give our kababayans (countrymen) even better access to quality-assured and globally competitive technical-vocational (skills training) and communicate to the public TESDA’s aspiration to provide public service with a heart aligned with the administration’s brand of governance and leadership ‘Bagong Pilipinas’,” Mangudadatu emphasized.
TESDA has also been big into the upskilling and reskilling of repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). In 2022, the agency trained around 28,982 OFW repatriates and their dependents, preparing them for employment as the country opens up after over two years of pandemic-induced lockdowns.
The agency wants the OFWs to be ready whether they decide to go back to their employment abroad or decide to settle down and look for jobs in the country.
In a related development, the agency also has its TESDA Online Program (TOP), on which OFWs and their families may register for skills training. Last year there were 84,509 OFWs and their dependents who registered with TOP. (✓)
