MARIKINA CITY — First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former First Lady Imelda R. Marcos on Monday, July 8, visited the historic Marikina Shoe Museum, which houses the famous shoe collection of the former first lady.

The shoe museum, which holds approximately 800 pairs of shoes from Imelda Marcos’s renowned collection, has undergone significant upgrades under the supervision of Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro.

Such rehabilitation seeks to enhance the visitor experience and ensure the preservation of the valuable artifacts for future generations.

Marikina First District Representative Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro welcomed First Lady Liza and former First Lady Imelda at the Marikina Shoe Museum.

Cong. Maan led the guided tour of the newly rehabilitated museum, highlighting the extensive shoe collection and the history behind each pair.

Mayor Marcy highlighted the importance of preserving cultural landmarks like the Marikina Shoe Museum.

“This museum is not just a repository of footwear; it is a testament to the artistry and craftsmanship of the Filipino people,” he stated.

“It stands as a symbol of our rich history and our continuing journey as a nation.”

Former First Lady Imelda Marcos is known worldwide for her extensive shoe collection.

Mayor Marcy Teodoro underscored the significance of the museum to Marikina City, often hailed as the Shoe Capital of the Philippines.

“The Marikina Shoe Museum is a cornerstone of our community. Through these renovations, we aim to provide a more immersive and educational experience for all visitors, showcasing the pride and craftsmanship of Marikina’s shoemakers,” he said.

Founded in 2001, the Marikina Shoe Museum is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history and craftsmanship of Marikina’s shoe industry.

The Marikina Shoe Museum stands as a tribute to Filipino craftsmanship and a symbol of Marikina’s vibrant cultural heritage. (/)
