COTABATO CITY (SDN) — The Parliament of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) headed by Speaker Palingalian Ali M. Balindong has adopted Resolution No. 446 welcoming the appointment to the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) of Sheikh Sabuddin N. Abdurahim of Tawi-Tawi.

BARMM is on its 5th year of transition stage headed by Chief Minister Ahod Balawag “Al-Haj Murad” Ebrahim.

Resolution No. 446 of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament expressed its gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. for choosing Abdurahim as his appointee as secretary of the NCMF, apparently, counting on his years of experience as someone long been personally involved in the Hajj, the Pilgrimage to Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The Tawi-Tawi native lost no time in voicing his thanks to the BARMM Parliament’s leadership for deeply appreciating the President’s appointment of Abdurahim.

Along with the Commission’s officials and employees, Abdurahim “thanked the Bangsamoro Parliament for their congratulatory commendation, trust, and support for the new administration.”

In a post on the NCMF page on Facebook, the new NCMF Secretary/CEO has assured “the Parliament and the Bangsamoro people of his unwavering commitment in promoting and safeguarding the rights and welfare of Muslims in the Philippines.”

Abdurahim, meanwhile, is looking forward to working closely with the Parliament leadership and other stakeholders to achieve their common goals of peace, progress, and prosperity for the Muslim Communities in the Philippines.

He formally assumed his position at the Commission after taking his oath on March 27, 2024, administered by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin.

Abdurahim started taking charge of the NCMF at the time the 2024 Hajj operation was in full swing, which before his term, especially during 2022 Hajj and 2023 Hajj were characterized by problems that raised the anger of thousands of pilgrims and many Muslim Filipino leaders.

The issues that plagued the pilgrimage operation in those years earned the ire as well of some leaders of the House of Representatives, which conducted four public hearings or investigations.

In the 2024 Hajj operation, though Abdurahim came when it was already at its peak, there was no major issues that came up so far.
