TAGUIG CITY (SDN) — Mayor Ma. Laarni “Lani” L. Cayetano of this Metro Manila urban jungle has expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the Senate and the House of Representatives and others for the congressional adoption of a resolution on the EMBO barangays (villages).

Her expression of gratitude came in the wake of the two legislative chambers adopting Concurrent Resolution that adds EMBO barangays to Taguig Districts, as well as increasing the numbers of councilors to 12 for fair representation.

She thanked Senate President Francis Escudero, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Majority Leader Mannix Dalipe, Congressman Zaldy Co, and her former colleagues in congress for what she described as “their steadfast support in passing the concurrent resolution that ensures fair representation and protects the voting rights of the 10 EMBO barangays in Taguig.

If you are still not aware and living under a rock, Taguig’s 10 new barangays are Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, East Rembo, Pembo, Pitogo, Post Proper Northside, Post Proper Southside, Rizal, and West Rembo which had been under the local government of Makati City. Taguig won over the 10 villages by virtue of a final Supreme Court ruling.

While at it, the city chief executive also expressed her thanks to the Taguig City Council led by Vice Mayor Arvin Alit, for their solidarity; the 38 barangays led by Liga President Jorge Bocobo; the EMBO barangay captains, especially, who fought with us to ensure their right to vote for their congressional representatives; Taguig Pateros District 1 Congressman Ading Cruz, Jr. for sponsoring the resolution; and the Legal Team, headed by City Administrator Atty. Jose Luis Montales, for their crucial work that affirmed Taguig’s jurisdiction over Fort Bonifacio and the 10 EMBO barangays.

Of course, Mayor Lani Cayetano won’t even forget “our dear Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, for his unwavering support and love for Taguig as well as the 10 EMBO barangays, to which he has wholeheartedly extended his care, love, and dedication.”

Both chambers of Congress adopted the long and winding “Concurrent Resolution Including the Ten (10) Enlisted Men’s Barrios (EMBO) Barangays in the Two (2) Legislative Districts of the City of Taguig and Municipality of Pateros in Order Not to Disenfranchise the Registered Voters Therein and Confirming the Increase to Twelve (12) of the Number of Councilors in Each Councilor District of the City of Taguig for Purposes of Fair and Equitable Representation.”

A statement said the resolution “confirms the will of Taguigeños expressed in Ordinance No. 144 to include the 10 EMBO barangays in Taguig’s 2 districts.”

They are:

First Legislative and Councilor District:
1. Comembo;
2. Pembo;
3. Rizal

Second Legislative and Councilor District:
1. Cembo;
2. South Cembo;
3. East Rembo;
4. West Rembo;
5. Pitogo;
6. Post Proper Northside;
7. Post Proper Southside.

Each district will now have 12 councilors instead of 8.

The Concurrent Resolution and the Ordinance aim to ensure that the voters in the EMBO barangays can vote for, and their residents are represented in, the House of Representatives.

They also ensure fair and equitable representation to better serve Taguigeños and address their needs. (/)
