ISTANBUL, Turkiye — The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) Central Committee Chairman, and United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) President Al-Haj Murad Ebrahim, along with country and regional leaders, participated in a significant international workshop on 20 June 2025/24 Dhuʻl-Hijjah 1446 AH.

Titled “Moro Peace Process: Conflict Resolution and Mediation,” the event was held in Istanbul, Turkey, and organized by the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), in coordination with INSAMER, a strategic studies center.

The workshop brought together key leaders, delegates, and experts to revisit the peace process and share strategies for sustaining and strengthening peace efforts in post-conflict regions, particularly in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

This initiative is rooted in the historic Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) signed between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the MILF on March 27, 2014, a milestone that ended decades of armed conflict in Mindanao.

The IHH has played a vital role as an independent observer and mediator throughout the peace negotiations, offering support and international solidarity for the successful implementation of the CAB.

Chairman Murad emphasized the importance of continuous international engagement and support in maintaining peace, promoting moral governance, and ensuring justice for the Bangsamoro people.

The workshop also provided a platform for dialogue, reflection, and learning from global peacebuilding experiences to reinforce the gains of the Bangsamoro peace process.

International humanitarian and policy institutions’ participation reflects a growing commitment to uphold long-term peace, reconciliation, and inclusive development in the Bangsamoro region.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages — now eight new municipalities — that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
