BAHAY KAWAYAN, Taytay, Rizal (SDN) — Businessman Chavit Crisologo Singson, former governor of Ilocos Sur, today, November 14, reaffirmed his plans for the financial inclusion of Filipinos to improve their status in life.

Part of his plans is the launch of VBank (Bangko ng Masa, Bank of the Masses) in December for all deserving poor Filipinos across the nationwide.

Singson made the revelation during a press conference here, saying he just wants to help Filipinos many of them are out of the banking system.

“Next month ila-launch na natin ‘yung Banko ng Masa (VBank). Ipamimigay ko lahat sa taumbayan, dahil more than 70 percent walang bank account ‘yung mga tao at 91 percent walang credit cards,” he promises.

(Translation: Next month we will launch the Bank of the Masses. We are going to give it the citizens because more than 70 percent (of the more than 100 million Filipinos) have no bank account and more than 90 percent have no credit cards.)

The Senate aspirant was with Rizal Gov. Nina Ynares, who joined him in the press conference. Ynares recalled her father’s strong bond with Singson dating back to their earlier days.

It can be recalled that in an earlier press conference in October at his Corinthian Garden Mansion along EDSA, Quezon City, Metro Manila, he also revealed his plans to provide Filipinos with a debit/ATM card that functions both as debit and credit cards.

He said then that he wants to up the ante on the digital inclusion of his countrymen, saying of the more than 100 Filipinos, more than 90 percent are unbanked, and over 70 percent have no credit card.

The former governor of Ilocos Sir and mayor of Narvacan is running for the Senate in the May 12, 2025, National and Local Elections (NLE), revealing he has no intention to join politics again but prevailed upon by his supporters, including local government executives and the country’s transport groups, of which also belongs.

He said that’s what he plans to accomplish if he is elected to the Senate.

Singson filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) under the Ako Ilokano Ako Party-list. He is widely endorsed by the Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators ng Pilipinas (LTOP).

When he was a politician, he was president of the Governors League of the Philippines, Mayors League of the Philippines, and Councilors League of the Philippines, which showed his wide acceptability.

Singson has equipped himself with his father’s wisdom who told him to cultivate and maintain the people’s trust and confidence and always be honest in dealing with people and in business.

“That’s been my father’s strong words to me,” Singson says, adding he holds the words dearly.

At the quick press conference here at Bahay Kawayan Restaurant, the Ilocano leader in politics and business said his plans to establish a manufacturing plant in Malvar, Batangas, will push through for the production of modern jeepneys, including electric vehicles.

He said he will provide to the transport sectors’ drivers through their organizations and/or their mayors the passenger vehicles on credit worth more than Php2.5 million at only Php1.2 million, without down payment, without interest, payable every day.

Singson said his only intention is to help poor Filipinos who are struggling for their families cope with life’s difficulties.

Before he filed his COC in October, he said he did not plan to join politics again, but there was clamor from various quarters that he can’t refuse for him to target the Senate.

The Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators ng Pilipinas (LTOP) headed by Ka Lando Marquez is one of the former governor’s biggest supporters.

Many mayors from Ilocos Sur and other areas as well have already pledged their all out support for his candidacy. (✓)
