COTABATO CITY β€” With the ceremonial banging of the gong, the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) officially kicked off the Regional Brigada Eskwela 2026 today, June 5, at Datu Halun Laboratory School in Tawi-Tawi.

The event gathered government officials, education leaders, development partners, private sector representatives, teachers, parents, and volunteers, highlighting the shared responsibility of providing quality education for every learner.

Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide week-long school maintenance and preparedness program held before the opening of classes, bringing together communities and stakeholders to help ensure schools are safe, clean, and ready for learning.

Carrying the theme β€œBayanihan sa Paaralan: Nagkakaisa para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman,” this year’s activity emphasized the importance of community participation in creating safe, inclusive, and learner-friendly schools.

In his keynote message, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Interim Chief Minister and Concurrent Minister of MBHTE, Abdulraof A. Macacua, represented by MBHTE Director General for Technical Education, Ruby Andong, described Brigada Eskwela as a reflection of Bangsamoro values and collective responsibility.

β€œThis is bayanihan in its purest form. A collective movement that resonates deeply with our identity as a Bangsamoro. It reminds us that the education of our children is a responsibility that belongs to all of us.”

The MBHTE is one of the 15 primary ministries of the Bangsamoro Government.

In a message of support from Department of Education (DepEd) Assistant Secretary Roger Masapol, delivered by MBHTE Bureau Director for Basic Education, Johnny G. Balawag, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening its partnership with MBHTE-BARMM to ensure quality and inclusive education for every Batang Bangsamoro.

As part of the program, MBHTE also distributed school supplies and cleaning materials to the host school to support preparations for the opening of classes.

The event also marked the launch of the Annual School-Based Assessment and Reporting System (ASBAR), a digital platform that streamlines School-Based Management assessments and reporting, promoting accountability and evidence-based decision-making across the Bangsamoro region.
