COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) strongly condemns the recent grenade attack in the town of Pikit in North Cotabato, which caused casualties, including the death of Ms. Marichu Valle Cabañog, a public schoolteacher in Ginatilan of the said town.

For the past few months, the Municipality of Pikit has been faced with different incidents that threatened the safety and security of its constituents where majority of these incidents were shooting and ambush.

Education is, indeed, inherently apolitical though it needs to carry actions that implore us to help our students find meaning and purpose in their learning as their preparation and contribution not only to the community but also to the society. In order to attain this, teachers and the entire community shall play vital roles.

Thus, the MBHTE and the entire education community stand with everyone in condemning this inhuman act and is committed to contributing and working in ending all forms of abuse and violence. We urge the public to help in safeguarding peace and order in their local communities.

The Bangsamoro region, especially the Education Ministry, has a moral obligation to protect its learners as well as its educators and help the communities within its jurisdiction.

To this, we call on the authorities, especially the men in uniform alongside the Local Government Unit (LGU) to immediately conduct an investigation and expeditiously bring justice to the bereaved family.

Further, we imperatively urge everyone to be more vigilant and cautious in these trying times. (/)
