COTABATO CITY — The Cotabato State University (CotSU) celebrated a significant milestone on January 23, 2025, with the official turnover of a newly constructed dormitory building, funded by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Conducted at the CotSU Audio Visual Room (AVR), the event was followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the official turnover of keys at the dormitory building itself.

This new student housing facility represents a significant investment in the future of CotSU students. It will provide safe, comfortable, and affordable accommodation for students, particularly those coming from far-flung areas of the region. The dormitory is expected to alleviate housing concerns for many students, allowing them to focus on their studies and contribute more fully to campus life.

โ€œThis dormitory is a testament to the commitment of the MBHTE-BARMM to improving access to quality education in the region and a manifestation of the development of the University,โ€ said Eng’r. Zubair A. Guiaman, chief of the Education Facilities Section (EFS) of MBHTE.

CotSU President Dr. Sema G. Dilna expressed his gratitude to the MBHTE-BARMM for their generous support. โ€œWe know for a fact that as a state university, we are both from Region 12 and the BARMM, but we are more than privileged since we are a hybrid university, that despite the financial constraints of the national government, we are able to cope with the necessary facilities of the University with the help of BARMMโ€, he said. “We are confident that this facility will contribute to the continued growth and success of our university.”

The ceremony was graced by Hon. Mohagher M. Iqbal, Minister of the MBHTE, as the Keynote Speaker. Iqbal emphasized the importance of quality education as a powerful catalyst for individual and societal advancement.

โ€œIn order to achieve quality education, there are many factors. One of the most important factors is the competence of the teachers and administrators, school facilities โ€“ such as a dormitory, local outlet units, and even peace and order โ€“ all of these things contribute to achieving quality education. As the saying goes, ‘it takes a community to educate a child’.โ€

The BARMM education chief ended his message by thanking CotSU for the warm welcome and assured that MBHTE will continue to support the university in any way it can, In Shaa Allah.

The dormitory is expected to be ready for occupancy by next semester.

Also at the turnover ceremony included Dr. Abonawas M. Pendaliday, vice president for Administration and Finance; Dr. Kundo M. Pahm, Jr., vice president for Academic Affairs; Dr. Teng A. Alim, pice president for Research, Extension and Resource Generation; Sheikh Jan Areef Mascud, moral values officer of EFS, MBHTE, who also delivered a brief Islamic reminder during the program; and several key officials and staff of the University and MBHTE-BARMM.

It was a momentous occasion for CotSU, marking a significant step forward in providing better facilities and support for its students. (/)
