According to IDC’s 2019 estimate, the global data volume will grow by an average of 61% annually in the future, and reach 175 ZB in 2025. Driven by various new technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, automation, and blockchain, etc., the application of data is constantly innovating, making data more and more important and becoming the foundation of smart life and smart business. Since the government’s promotion of open data in 2013, the Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has been committed to promoting the application of open data, and actively planned related measures with the “Project of Data-Driven Service Industry Applications & Development“, including a comprehensive service industry chain, and the establishment and popularization of local Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and spontaneous mechanisms to create an international data ecological network that is conducive to the industry to expand overseas business opportunities.
Accumulating the achievements of Taiwan’s promotion of data application in the past, Taipei Computer Association planned “Data Economy Application Online Exhibition”. A total of 15 highlight companies are selected according to the domain field to create a sentimental experience of data application, which are divided into life and consumption, transportation and logistics, geographic map and information, environment and governance, medical and insurance. It fully demonstrates that this project assists the industry to gradually develop data supply, data acquisition, analysis and application capabilities and innovative business models starting from the government opening of data. At the same time, it also communicates and interacts with data economic communities and organizations at home and abroad, promotes Asian thematic data connection, and jointly promotes the benefits of data services, solves the demand gap faced by the data industry in expanding overseas markets, and helps Taiwan’s data services to expand internationally.
In the future, IDB will continue to enhance the transparency of government governance, and at the same time lift up the momentum of private data applications, thereby enhancing the overall industry competitive advantage.
