BAGUIO CITY (SDN) — The City of Baguio through its chief executive, Mayor Benjamin Magalong, has agreed to the rehabilitation and transformation of an Islamic school (madrasah) in the city.
This positive and welcome development came after a cordial and fruitful meeting between the good mayor and the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF)-North Luzon headed by Regional Director Bai Raihanah Sarah T. Macarimpas-Pacasum.
À lawyer by profession, the NCMF-North Luzon head said the mayor of the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) local government unit (LGU) gave his thumbs up on the proposal, which involves the rehabilitation and transformation of Mahad Luzon Al-Islami Center, Inc. into an educational and cultural center. The madrasah is located at Crystal Cave in the Pine City.
With the guidance and presence of NCMF Central Office Administrative Services Director Abdullah Macarimpas, the meeting was held in the City Hall Building on June 20, 2022.
The two parties discussed the NCMF-North Luzon’s proposal, which the management of the madrasah brought to the attention of Macarimpas-Pacasum.
The SDN — Science and Digital News learned that “Mayor Magalong readily offered his assistance for the rehabilitation of the madrasah” with the project to “be declared as city need to be included in the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).”
The NCMF Team and Magalong also communicated with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-CAR Director Khadaffy Tanggol to request for technical assistance in the preparation of the madrasah’s plan and design.
Also in the meeting, aside from Director Macarimpas and RD Macarimpas-Pacasum, included Yasser Guro, Attorney Nor-ainah Daragangan, and Deloraine Bernabe.
After the meeting the NCMF expressed its sincerest gratitude to Magalong and Tanggol for their invaluable support and assistance to the Muslim Filipino community in Baguio City. (✓)
