BARMM Chief Minister Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim Presides over RPOC Meeting to Find Solutions to ‘Rido’

COTABATO CITY, December 23, 2022 — Bangsamoro region Chief Minister Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim presided the meeting of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) today to discuss and adopt measures to better address the peace and security challenges in the region especially Rido or clan feuds.

Also today was the released of the checks representing 50 percent of the cost for the construction of several Barangay Halls for the local government units (LGUs) of Calanogas and Balindong of Lanao del Sur, said lawyer Naguib G. Sinarimbo, head of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG). He attended the meeting at the Office of the Chief Minister (OCM).

“We are also impressed by the progress of the construction of the Municipal Hall of the municipality of Madalum led by Mayor Sarangani and so the second tranche of the funds for the construction of the same has been released to them. This will hopefully hasten further the completion of this projects,” Sinarimbo added.
These projects are part of the support of the Chief Minister to LGUs to improve their government facilities in the hope of further enhancing the delivery of services to our constituents, he emphasized.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the 63 SGA (Special Geographic Area) barangays or villages that voted “yes” in a plebiscite in January and February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.

According to the Philippine Atlas, the BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur.  (✓)
