MANILA — The United States Department of State has picked a Moro government official to join the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP), which this year revolved around “Global Moment in Time: Reflections on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility.”

Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Deputy Director General Aleem Siddiqui Guiapal of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) joined 76 select participants coming from 58 countries from across the world. He is PEZA’s OIC DDG for Finance and Administration and concurrent group manager for Promotions and Public Relations.

PEZA congratulated him for his latest feat as he participated in the 2023 IVLP on February 04-19 in Washington, DC.

The national ecozone agency cited some of Guiapal’s achievements with PEZA, including being instrumental in agency’s sealing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to promote accessibility to Islamic Banks and financial inclusion. He was also part of the Technical Working Group (TWG) that lobbied for the passage of Republic Act No. 11439, otherwise known as “An Act Providing for the Regulation and Organization of Islamic Banks”.

Guiapal is with good company in the IVLP

The IVLP is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Through visits to the United States, current and emerging leaders in a variety of fields experience and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Guiapal is one of the more than 200,000 International Visitors who have engaged with Americans through the IVLP, including more than 500 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government.

There is no application for IVLP. Participants are nominated by U.S. Embassies around the world and selected by the U. S. Department of State.

“We are grateful to U.S. Embassy in the Philippines for (Guiapal’s) nomination and to the U. S. Department of State for OIC DDG Aleem Siddiqui Guiapal’s selection,” PEZA said in a statement.
