MBHTE’s Project IQBAL Reaches 41 Schools in Upi for a Series of Distribution Activities for Better Education

COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education’s (MBHTE) Project Improve Quality Education in the Bangsamoro Land (IQBAL) has reached 41 schools in the municipalities of North Upi and West Upi in Maguindanao del Norte Schools Division Office (SDO) in a series of distribution activities.

During its culmination activity last August 30, the MBHTE, through its Property and Supply Section (PASS), extended its appreciation to Upi Local Government Unit (LGU) led by its Local Chief Executive Hon. Ma. Rona Christina Piang-Flores, for playing a crucial role in facilitating the transportation of the supplies and ensuring to reach their destinations efficiently.

This initiative aims to enhance educational resources and support both educators and students in the region. MBHTE headed by Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal is one of the primary ministries of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Bureau Director of Basic Education Johnny G. Balawag noted that Project IQBAL is a modern and ambitious initiative by Minister Iqbal, aimed to greatly improve quality of education in the Bangsamoro region.

Project IQBAL provided:

  • – 355 Teacher’s Kits
  • – 7,836 Learner’s Kits
  • – 98 Manipulative Toys
  • – 340 Charts
  • – 340 Flashcards
  • – 55 Toys
  • – 206 Heavy-Duty Staplers (South Upi)
  • – 213 Heavy-Duty Staplers (North Upi)

The smooth execution of this distribution was also supported by the 57th Infantry Battalion (IB), 6th Infantry Division (ID) Philippine Army, under the leadership of LTC Aeron T. Gumabao (INF) PA, Commanding Officer, and 1LT Davi Ram O. Cuesta (INF) PA, Commanding Officer of ALFA (ALAKDAN) Company PA.

The military officers’ involvement ensured that security, transportation, and manpower were efficiently managed, allowing for the successful distribution of the educational resources.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of MBHTE to improving educational outcomes and supporting the educational community in region. Through Project IQBAL, we continue to invest in the future of our students by equipping schools with the tools they need to succeed.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. With the recent plebiscite at SGA, the BARMM now has eight new municipalities as residents voted “Yes”.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities (plus eight newly established under the SGA: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur.  (✓)
