CLUB FILIPINO, San Juan, September 19, 2025 (SDN) — Former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson today, Friday, called for a “peaceful revolution” amid the raging billions of pesos flood control projects consuming the Filipino nation.

Singson, supposed to be an aspirant for the senatorial race in May 2025 but withdrew his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the last minute, also urged high school and college students, the youth, to pause their studies, take a vacation, and lead the peace revolution he is calling for.

Retired Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) officers, among them, Delfin Lorenzana (former Defense secretary) and Hermogenes Esperon, Jr., (ertswhile PNP chief), and others attended Singson’s press conference.

A former National Democratic Front-New People’s Army (NPA) leader, Ka Celis, and his colleagues displayed streamers calling for President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Martin Romualdez who already stepped down as speaker of the House of Representatives.

He said the country’s high school and college students, or the youth, should lead the revolution against the corrupt because it is their future that is at stake.

They should stop going to school until the corrupt in government step down from their positions.

He added, however, that learners in Kindergarten and elementary schools should continue their study.

The Ilocos Sur kingpin, who has parlayed his various interests into different businesses, made the call here in a press conference widely attended by members of the Quad Media — print, radio, TV, online, expressing his sentiments on what’s presently transpiring in the Philippines.

“If ayaw nila (students), bahala sila, pero apektado sila. Bakit tayo lalaban sa demonstrasyon, marami silang Pera, murahin tayo ng attack dogs nila,” says Singson.

(Translation: If they (students) don’t do it, it’s up to them. Why do we compete with the demonstrations. They have much money, their attack dogs will berate us.)

The Ilocos Sur political kingpin emphasized that the students do not need to protest in the streets, they just have to stop their studies until the corrupt step down from their government positions.

“I don’t want them to be hurt,” Singson points out.

He added that the reason he was calling on the youth, the student leaders, to stand up is that “this is your right, because this is your future. This is not for us.”

Singson also called on other government officials, the military and the police, including generals “to let this children join the protest against corruption and to not stop them.

He said he wants the students to take a vacation, and if they don’t step down (corrupt government officials), “we will make them pay.”

On the other hand, he reminded students that education is very important, but the students won’t be able to do anything with what’s happening to the country now.

“So, that’s all I have to say. We will let the student leaders (lead the revolution) against corruption. That’s just my suggestion,” former governor said. — EDD K. Usman (©)
