DOST-SOCCSKSARGEN to stage S&T Week in Koronadal City, So. Cotabato

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — It’s the turn of the Department of Science and Technology  (DOST)-SOCCSKSARGEN to conduct the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) on December 5 to 7.

DOST 12 bLed by Dr. Zenaida “Hadja Shayma” Hadji Raof Laidan, regional director, of DOST-SOCCSKSARGEN (DOST XII), the event will be held at The Farm, Carpenter Hill, in this southern city.

SOCCSKSARGEN stands for South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City.

Here’s the announcement from the Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) about the RSTW, which is being held annually in every region of the Philippines

Riding on the theme “Science for the People: Innovation for Collective Prosperity,” the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XII will be holding its Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) on 5 to 7 December 2018 at The Farm @ Carpenter Hill in Koronadal, South Cotabato.

According to DOST Region XII, this year’s celebration is generally aimed at promoting empowerment and greater collaboration between and among various sectors of society through the use of science, technology, and innovation.DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña will lead the event’s roster of speakers along with other top DOST officials.

The exhibits area, which will display the different knowledge products and services offered by the DOST in the region, is open to the public. The exhibits will showcase the many innovative products produced by micro, small, and medium enterprises that were assisted through DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).

There will also be interactive exhibits dubbed “a-MAZE-ng DOST” that will be participated in by different DOST attached agencies. The interactive exhibits will display the latest technologies in agriculture, healthcare, industry, enterprise development, education and scholarship, information and communications technology, disaster preparedness, and local inventions.

Other activities lined up for the RSTW include the following: Technology Transfer Day; forums on halal industry, Regional Standards and Testing Laboratories, OneStore, and OneExpert; Mobile Planetarium; S&T Congress for the Youth; awarding of STARBOOKS and SETUP beneficiaries; launch of the OneStore Hub; talks on Balik Scientist Program and the Philippine Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Digital Era; and technology forums on TubigTalino, Bamboo Processing Technologies, Modified Handloom Weaving Machine, Carrageenan Plant Growth Promoter, Nipa Sap as Sugar Alternative, and Squash Noodles Processing, among others.
