MANILA — Filipino developers here’s something you might be interested in working on.
And by doing so, you may be able to have a positive impact on society by creating a cloud-based solution contributing “to positive social and economic results across Southeast Asia.”
You may also be able to become inspiration for the next generation of developers.
The event that will let you inspire others: the AWS Hackdays 2019: Hack for Good launched by the Amazon Web Services (AWS) with participants coming from the Philippines and five other Southeast Asian countries.
AWS announced this on Thursday, February 7, in an email to SDN — Science and Digital News.
Developers interested to try their mettle may register for the hackathon at https://aws.agorize.com/en to get more details.
An Amazon.com firm, AWS has been conducting the annual education and hackathon event.
Its aim is to empower a community of developers in SEA to drive positive change leveraging the technologies of AWS.The United States technology firm will conduct the event online with the participants asked to create solutions revolving around four topics, such as HealthTech, AgriTech, Smart City, and Fintech.
“At AWS Hackdays 2019: Hack for Good, builders in the region will showcase their innovation, and demonstrate skills in either Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Data Analytics, or Modern Applications,” AWS said.
Once registered to participate, developers will be given access to the services of AWS, such as:
- Amazon Sagemaker to build, train, and deploy Machine Learning (ML) models;
- Amazon Polly to build speech-enabled applications; and,
- Amazon Lex to build chatbots, as well as AWS IOT services, AWS Data Analytics, and Modern Applications such as Serverless Technologies, Microservices and Continuous integration and Continuous deliver (CI/CD).
AWS encourages participants, using the said technologies to create cloud-based solutions that can contribute to positive social and economic results across the region, and inspire the next generation of developers.
Cloud technologies vehicle for world solutions
The American company cited solutions created by developers from various parts of the world using AWS technologies.
“Advancements in cloud technology have allowed developers around the world to design and develop solutions that were previously unimaginable. For example, Indonesia’s PetaBencana uses AWS’s IoT technology to monitor water level and share time-critical information with residents in the event of a flood. Sunday Insurance in Thailand uses machine-learning algorithms to provide customers with a broader range of insurance policies, covering properties and possessions, and highly customized premiums that deliver greater value to customers,” said Nick Walton, managing director for Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), AWS.
“At AWS, we hope to enable members of the developer community to harness the power of technology to drive positive impact for a better world. AWS Hackdays 2019: Hack for Good will provide Southeast Asian builders with access to tools and services on the broadest and deepest platform, and enable them to develop forward-thinking solutions to real world issues that can help improve the way organizations do business, or the way we live.”
Grand Finale winners gets ticket to Las Vegas, Nevada
This is the first time, the company said, the competition will include an online component, which allows participants to submit their entries to https://aws.agorize.com/en in an online hackathon.
Each country will have five teams who will earn the opportunity to participate in the national Demo Day during which they will pitch their final projects to a panel from AWS and other expert judges in the startup/innovation space.
They have until March 10, 2019, a Sunday, to submit their deliverables for the online hackathon.
AWS said winning teams in each country will represent their country, and compete in the AWS Hackdays 2019 Grand Finale in Singapore on April 10, 2019.
Judging criteria covers originality and creativity, feasibility and potential impact, and how well the proposed application integrates with AWS services.
For the AWS Hackdays 2019: Hack for Good Grand Finale in Singapore, the winning team will receive a paid trip (including airfare, accommodation, and re:Invent tickets) to AWS re:Invent 2019 in Las Vegas, the world’s leading learning conference for the global cloud community. (EKU/AWS)
