New Microsoft executive sees Philippines ‘on cusp of greatness’

ANOTHER high-ranking executive a multinational company has expressed glowing words for the future of the Philippines.

Is it another sign of a country on the verge of really making it big leading to a headway of a prolong economic development?

Obviously, only the future can tell.

But at least for Andrés Ortola, Microsoft’s new country general manager for the Philippines, that’s what he believes in, or at least counting on.

If you ask him, the Philippines is near its hour of greatness.

“I believe Philippines is on the cusp of greatness. As we all know, the economy is among the fastest growing in Asia Pacific and our customers are hungry for transformation,” said Ortola.

“I’m looking forward to working with our team to deliver a strong and consistent agenda that contributes to the digitalization of the Philippines economy, transforms our key industries and has a strong positive societal impact.”

In an email to SDN — Science and Digital News on Friday, March 8, it was learned that the American technology giant of a company appointed Ortola as its new country general manager. Part of his work in the country is to work closely with the firm’s partners to help businesses realize their vision of digital transformation.

Before his assignment to the Philippines, he was the lead for Microsoft’s enterprise commercial business for Singapore. In his prior post his leadership and focus on transforming the business delivered unprecedented value for Microsoft customers and partners.

His country of origin is Argentina and lived in Buenos Aires.

Ortola brings with him 20 years of experience in the IT industry and has held various regional leadership positions in consulting, sales management, marketing and business management. His previous experiences include regional roles at Microsoft, Quest Software, IBM and as a co-founder for entrepreneurial project.

In his new position, the new country general manager will be reporting to Andrea Della Mattea, president, Microsoft Asia Pacific, who welcomed the new addition to the company.

“I’m thrilled to have Andrés lead one of our most dynamic, exciting and vibrant markets in Asia Pacific. His expertise and experience in creating growth opportunities and leading teams will be integral to support our customers and partners in the Philippines,” said Andrea.

Ortola is armed with has extensive global experience. There are many places he called home, such as South America, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, the most recent of which Asia.

The Microsoft Philippines country general manager is a sports fan as well as he particularly enjoys watching, coaching and playing rugby. He uses his free time to bond with his family as they explore the world. (EKU)
