(SDN) — PHILIPPINE AIRLINES (PAL) will take to the sky once more. With some regularity.

SOON! This June 2020 soon.

This bit of news came as the government announced the transition beginning June 1 from Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) to Geneal Community Quarantine (GCQ) characterized by the loosening of restrictions imposed during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) that started in March. The restrictions were forced by the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) not only in the Philippines but across the world.

With the relaxed restrictions in some aspects of daily life — but be watchful and careful as ever because Covid-19 is very much out there — flights will be allowed. To some extent.

Cielo C. Villaluna, spokesperson of the Philippines flag carrier, gave the update on PAL’s return to the sky, particularly scheduled flights.

“We wish to update you that Philippine Airlines will resume operating scheduled flights on selected international and domestic routes for the month of June 2020,” she says, addressing the airline’s passengers.

Villaluna added that there will be limited international service to the United States, Canada, Guam, Vietnam, mainland China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Japan, the United, Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, there will be domestic flights but reduced on selected routes going to and from the airline’s hub airport in Manila (MNL-NAIA).

Below is Villaluna’s announcement covering the PAL flights and the periods covered, as well as reminders:

We plan to increase the number of routes and flights in the coming months, if allowed by aviation authorities, global public health conditions and the travel environment.

FLYING SAFELY IN THE ‘NEW NORMAL’

In compliance with international health and safety protocols, PAL is strictly implementing Fly Safe “new normal” practices to protect our passengers as they travel with us.

We wish to remind all passengers to bring your own face masks or facial coverings, as you are now required to wear face masks at all times – at the airport and also throughout your flight.

We also encourage you to check-in online and arrive early at the airport to allocate extra time for new safety procedures (thermal scanning, social distancing practices for queuing, etc.) – at least 3 hours prior to departure for domestic flights; and 4 hours prior to departure for international flights.

Our cabin crew would have undergone rapid antibody testing prior to the flight, and will be wearing full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for your protection on board the flight. A modified meal and snack service will be offered on board, using sealed packaging instead of traditional meals.

Don’t worry about the cabin air — all PAL aircraft are equipped with high-technology systems that continuously infuse fresh air across the cabin (cabin air is replaced every 2 to 3 minutes), as well as HEPA filters that trap viruses, bacteria and other contaminants with 99.9% efficiency. The onboard air creates a cleaner environment that is safer than most enclosed public spaces and comparable to hospital operating rooms.

GUIDELINES FOR AFFECTED PASSENGERS:

If your flight is cancelled, we wish to assure you that your current tickets are safe and remain valid. For details on your options, please see here: https://tinyurl.com/s9vp82n

SPECIAL REMINDER TO CHECK ON UPDATES:

This is a developing situation, and thus it is quite possible that our plans and schedules may change, as we may be compelled to scale back on flights and routes based on evolving travel patterns and restrictions, or add flights if demand rebounds more strongly. Kindly check our website http://www.philippineairlines.com, or follow our social media accounts, so that you’ll be updated the moment we release advisories on new developments.

OUR THANKS AND APPRECIATION

We are happy to be flying again at last, after the longest operational pause in our almost-80-year history (with the exception of World War II). As the world continues to grapple with the pandemic and the related economic challenges, we continue to ask for the cooperation and support of all our valued customers, our partners in government and the transport and tourism industry, and our family of PAL personnel.

As we finally get back in the air, we thank you for your understanding and support. Your health and safety will always be our top concern, and we wish you safe travels and all the best. (PAL/SDN)
