Sen. Grace Poe-Llamanzares to Deliver Keynote Address at ‘Digitalizing the Philippines’ Conference on Sept. 29

By EDD K. USMAN
(SDN) — Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares will deliver the keynote address on September 29, 2021, at an online conference dubbed “Digitalizing the Philippines: A White Paper Launch and Discussion Forum”. Poe chairs both the Senate Committee on Public Services and the Senate Committee on Banks and Financial Institutions.
The National University of Singapore-Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, one of the world’s top public policy schools, and WR, public affairs and strategy firm, are organizing the online event to discuss and launch the white paper titled, “Digitalizing the Philippines: A White Paper Launch and Discussion Forum”.
The forum will facilitate discussion on policy reforms and industry efforts to promote the development of the digital economy in the Philippines.
Organizers of the event called attention to the impact of the pandemic first made public in December 2019 after China reported the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak to the World Health Organization (WHO).
In March 2020 the WHO declared the outbreak as pandemic. The world of over seven billion people was never the same again.
“The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic magnified the significance of digital economy in supporting economic competitiveness and resiliency. A movement towards digitalization and e-commerce has been observed across the Asia Pacific region, and the Philippines is no exception. Despite this, however, the prospects of pursuing digitalization have been coupled with constraints including access to affordable technologies, poor access to quality internet, and long-held traditional operation models.”

This forum is organized in partnership with Embiggen Consulting, the University of Asia & the Pacific School of Law and Governance, College of St. Benilde School of Diplomacy and Governance, and the Philippine Strategic Forum.

Poe-Llamanzares leads a battery of speakers to share their views and apparently offer solutions.
