(SDN) — The long-sought presidential action has finally materialized.
President Duterte, after taking a neutral stand for months, has certified urgent legislative bills seeking the resetting of the parliamentary election in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). That’s from May 2022 to May 2025.
Therefore, if the bills in the Senate and the House of Representatives become law, extending the term of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) to three more years until 2025.
The huge significance of the presidential action was not lost on the Bangsamoro government under interim Chief Minister Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim.

To demonstrate the BARMM leadership’s gratitude, the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP), said Interior Minister Naguib G. Sinarimbo, “has conducted simultaneous caravan (on September 19) in the Bangsamoro region to express its gratitude to President Duterte for certifying the bill resetting the parliamentary elections in the BARMM to 2025 as urgent and necessary, thereby extending the period of transition.”
“We would like to express our gratitude to the Senate and the House of Representatives for passing on third and final reading the said bill,” he added.

“Above all, we are grateful to our people for their overwhelming support to the leadership of the Bangsamoro Government and the extension of the BTA as demonstrated by their overwhelming participation in this simultaneous event,” the BARMM spokesman said.
The UBJP is the political party of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as it readies itself to participate in mainstream activities.
Earlier, the BARMM leadership along with Mindanao leaders as well as civil society organizations (CSOs) asked the President for the certification of the bills as urgent.
And in good time, he did, ultimately. (✓)
