(SDN) — Another person much-experienced in public service takes the helm of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), an agency under the Office of the President (OP).
This time it’s Atty. Guiling A. “Gene” Mamondiong who assumed office today, March 9, 2022.
He took his oath of office at the NCMF Central Office along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City, administered by NCMF Executive Director Tahir S. Lidasan, Jr., CESO II.

According to Bureau of External Relations (NCMF-BER) Director Dr. Dimapuno A. Datu-Ramos, Jr., Mamondiong of Lanao del Sur ” has been in public service for decades … worked in various agencies, like the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and served as undersecretary for Railways and undersecretary for Municipal Telephone at the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), now the Department of Transportation (DoTr) during the time of former Presidents Fidel V. Ramos and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, respectively.”
Under President Rodrigo R. Duterte, Mamondiong replaced now Senator Joel Villanueva as director general with a Cabinet rank at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). Immediately before his stint at the NCMF, he was administrator of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).
He replaced now Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Saidamen B. Pangarungan at the NCMF.

The President this month appointed three Maranao leaders with Cabinet ranks, Mamondiong, Pangarungan, and Atty. Abdullah “Dabs” Mama-o as secretary of the newly-established Department of Migrant Affairs (DOMA).
Among his other activities or work included being chair of the Muslim Economic Development Council (MEDC), chair of the Lanao Alliance for Good Governance (LAGG), and is a senior adviser of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).
During the candidacy of Duterte in May 2016, Mamondiong founded and chaired the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte National Executive Coordinating Committee (MRRD NECC), said Datu-Ramos.
Mamondiong is one of the founders of the United Muslim Democrats of the Philippines (UMDP), which catapulted some of its officers to government posts. (✓)
