COTABATO CITY — The Bangsamoro Government’s Regional Peace and Order (RPOC) Council held its first meeting for the year at the Conference Room of the Office of the Chief Minister (OCM).
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister Ahod Balawag “Al-Hajj Murad” Ebtahim in his opening remarks noted that this year is the first time that the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) will officially participate in the electoral process as part of its transition from an armed revolutionary organization into a political party.
He urged everyone to ensure that the first experience of the MILF in a democratic process will be one where the true will of the people will be expressed and not the usual machinations of traditional politicians who subvert the popular will of the people thru bribery, intimidation, the use of the institutions of state to perpetuate oppression and injustice.
“We should not allow the institutions of the state to become instruments of control and oppression in the region as it will birth again the legitimate grievances of our people,” said Ebrahim, chairman of the MILF, and president of the group’s United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP).
