COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) conducted Monday, July 18, a Stakeholders Consultation for the Crafting of BARMM Information Systems Strategic Plan (ISSP) Guidelines at Park Inn Hotel, Davao City.
BARMM stands for the new political entity (NPE) dubbed the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). It was created by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) peace treaty between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Comprising the Bangsamoro region’s territory, its government parliamentary in form but still part of the Filipino nationhood, are the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area (SGA) made up of 63 barangays or villages in North Cotabato that opted to be under BARMM jurisdiction during the plebiscites in January and February 2019. North Cotabato itself is not part of the region.
Under the leadership of Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, a stalwart in the 17 years old Mindanao peace process with the MILF, the MBHTE has been implementing programs, projects, services, and measures to improve the quality of education in Muslim Mindanao.

In the Davao City event that concluded on July 20, the MBHTE collaborated with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Bangsamoro Information and Communications Technology Office (BICTO), Bangsamoro Attorney General’s Office (BAGO), Commission on Audit (COA), Office of the Chief Minister-Information and Communications Office (OCM-ICO), and Australian Government’s Education Pathways to Peace in Mindanao (EPPM).
