NCMF-North Luzon Joins 2022 Indigenous People’s Month and 25th Year IPRA Commemoration in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY — Various ethnic communities, with participation from Philippine Muslims, have marked the 2022 Indigenous People’s Month and the 25th Anniversary of the Indigenous People’s Rights Act (IPRA) in this cold City of Pines.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF)-North Luzon headed by Regional Director Atty. Bai Raihanah Sarah T. Macarimpas led the participation of the Bangsamoro ethnic communities.

This year’s theme revolved around the “25 Years: Fulfilling the Indigenous People’s Rights and Bridging the Gaps through ICCs/IPs Convergence with Partners and Stakeholders to Ensure Economic Sustainability and Security in the Ancestral Domains.”

Organizers of the event and the participants coming from various government line agencies, private institutions, and multi-sectoral populace from the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) conducted a cultural parade starting from Upper Session Road to Saint Louis University *SLU).
Showcasing their respective ethnic attires, some delegates wore “bahag” (G-string) and “tapis” (skirt), while NCMF representatives wore “landap” or “malong” (tube skirt).
After the cultural parade, a culmination program was conducted at the SLU Burgos Gym.
During the program, Baguio City Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan gave the welcome address, while SLU President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, delivered the opening remarks.
Short messages were also given by CAR and Region 1 Ethnographic Commissioner Gaspar A. Cayat; Department of Social Work and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group Atty. Marco Magala Bautista, Congressman Allen Jesse Capuyan Mangaoang of Kalinga, Congressman Menchie B. Bernos of Abra, Congressman Eleonor Bulut-Begtang of Apayao; Congressman; Mark O. Go of Baguio City; Congressman Eric G. Yap of Benguet; Congressman Solomon R. Chungalao of Ifugao, and Congressman Maximo Dalog, Jr. of Mt. Province.
Cultural performances by different cultural groups then followed.
After the awarding of plaques, (National Commission of Indigenous People (NCIP)-CAR Regional Director Atty. Atanacio Addog delivered the closing remarks. (/)
