MANILA — The two champions of the National Capital Region-National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF-NCR) are ready to battle it out in the 2023 48th National Qur’an Reading Champion (NQRC) on February 20.
NCMF-NCR Regional Director Dr. Dimapuno “Jun” Datu-Ramos, Jr. said Hamidin Abie with a rating of 96.95 percentile and Norsida Damaob (96.70 percentile) won the male and female brackets, respectively, the crowns of the 20th Regional Qur’an Reading Competiton (RQRC) conducted on January 20 at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila.
The NCMF-NCR through its Cultural Affairs Division and Chief Dr. Esmael Abdul, in partnership with the Office of the Mayor-Manila Muslim Affairs Office (OM-MMAO) headed by Director Sheida May Sakaluran Mohammad.
Guests of Honor of the RQRC included Senator Robinhood “Abdulaziz” Padilla, represented by his Chief Legislative Officer Atty. Algamar Latiph, and Manila Mayor Ma. Sheilah Honrado Lacuna-Pangan, MD, represented by Director Mohammad, and Presidential Adviser for Muslim Affairs Almarin Tillah.

Following is the complete list of the RQRC winners, per the office of Datu-Ramos, with the participant Qur’an readers representing various madaris (Islamic schools) in the NCR:
Male category:
- Champion: Hamidin Abie 96.95%
- 1st runner up: Samsodin Diba 94.30%
- 2nd Runner up: Hassanodin Uyag 94%
Female category:
- Champion: Norsida Damaob 96.70%
- 1st Runner up: Sittierogaya Nandong 94.30%
- 2nd Runner up: Norhaya Badawi 93.20%
All regional champions will compete in the 48th NQRC at the University of the Philippines (UP) Bahay ng Alumni, UP Campus, Diliman, Quezon City on February 20.
The National Champions will then be brought by the NCMF-Bureau of Muslim Cultural Affairs (NCMF-BMCA), under Acting Director Michael Mito-on J. Ali, to international Qur’an reading competitions in various countries. (/)
