Headed by Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, who writes under his pen name Salah Jubair, the MBHTE is one of the pprimary ministries of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), which governs the Bangsamoro region.

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao (now split as Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte), Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the 63 barangays or villages dubbed Special Geographic Area (SGA) that voted “yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.

According to the Philippine Atlas has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur.

Iqbal early in his assumption of the MBHTE post in 2019 had cited the importance of introducing and implementing reform in the Bangsamoro education system to raise the quality of learning among the inhabitants.

SGA villages also beneficiaries of Bangsamoro government’s programs, projects, and services

Apparently, providing a convenient, modern and resilient school buildings is part of the educational reform the MBHTE is putting up in various communities of the region.

This time new school buildings will soon rise in Barangay Kapinpilan, Midsayap, SGA, through a collaboration between the Directorate General for Madaris Education (MBHTE-DGME) and the office of Member of Parliament Abdullah Ebus Gayak.

In fact, the MBHTE and Gayak’s office already broke ground for the planned Php11.29-million school building project and facility. on a Friday, March 3, for two units of one-storey classroom structures and one covered court with bleachers.

It was expected that the school buildings and facility would be ready for use in a few months’ time barring any unforeseen hitch.

It could be noted that while the 63 villages belonging to SGA are locationally located in the province of North Cotabato, yet they are under the jurisdiction of the Bangsamoro government. Thus, the villages are also beneficiaries of programs, projects, and services that BARMM is providing for rest of the region’s communities. (✓)
