MAIMBUNG MUNICIPALITY, Sulu — The Bangsamoro government has added another feather to its accomplishment cap with the inauguration recently of Maimbung Police Station in this province.
It is hoped the new police station would result in a more peaceful and secure community, not only in the municipality but also adjoining towns on the island province.
“We inaugurated and turned over yesterday (March 19) the completed Municiapal Police Station of Maimbung, Sulu,” said lawyer Naguib G. Sinarimbo, head of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG), one of the primary governance body of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The MILG has been one of the driving forces of the Bangsamoro government when it comes to implementing programs, projects, and services which are means to distribute what is dubbed the “dividends of peace” in a region which was consumed by the Mindanao war that raged on for years.
A peace agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) established peace in the region, hopefully not just a fleeting moment but a for years and years to come.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao (now split as Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte), Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the 63 barangays or villages dubbed Special Geographic Area (SGA) that voted “yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur.
Sinarimbo said no less than Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan, Mayor Hadja Shihla Tan-Hayudini, Major Gen. Ignatius N. Patrimonio, commanding general, 11th Division, and Philippine National Police (PNP) Provincial Director Narciso Paragas joined the inauguration of the blue-colored police station. Barangay/village officials also came for the event.
