MAIMBUNG, Sulu (SDN) — The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) conducted for the first time a Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) meeting in Maimbung, this province.

BARMM Chief Minister Al-Hajj Murad Ebrahim chairs the RPOC.

In relation with the meeting on June 10, Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan hosted the gathering, making all the necessary preparations for its success.

Lawyer Naguib G. Sinarimbo, minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG) said in attendance were Council members that included governors of the Bangsamoro provinces, ministries, national agencies operating in the BARMM, and not the least the security sector. He said participants all flew to Sulu to catch the meeting.

“We are grateful to the Western Mindanao Command (Wesmincom) led by Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, a long-time friend, for mobilizing the air and sea assets of his command to ferry the participants to and from Sulu,” said Sinarimbo.

The MILG chief also thanked Defense Senior Undersecretary Carlito G. Galvez, Lt. Gen. Arthur M. Cordura (vice chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines), Undersecretary Deciano and Assistant Secretary Bayam of the Office of Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) for joining the meeting.

Sinarimbo also commended his MILF Team for the “efficient secretariat work. No words may adequately compensate for all your sacrifices in the preparation, often away from the limelight, for this important meeting in Sulu. Thank you very much.”

Four of the six Bangsamoro provincial chief executives attended the meeting, such as Tan, Basilan Gov. Jim H. Salliman, Maguindanao del Norte Gov. Abduraof Macacua, and Tawi-Tawi Gov. Ma’ang Sali.

The meeting as enunciated by Ebrahim, chair of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), was aimed at attaining long-lasting peace and order in the region.

In the meeting the participants tackled the roots of crime and violence the Bangsamoro government is facing. The Chief Minister acknowledged the vital need for an enduring peace and order.

“Our vision for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region is clear: a Bangsamoro that is united, enlightened, self-governing, peaceful, just, morally upright, and progressive,” he emphasized.

Among others, the Chief Minister also hammered down on the importance of hastening access to quality education and putting in place strategic investments for the advancement of the economy to further the attainment of the region’s peace and order.

Ebrahim pointed out that this could be done through substantial attention in the scaling of the intellectual capability of the next generation.

On his part, Tan expressed dedication in advancing peace and order in the region.

He said the RPOC paved the way for dialogue and understanding that would lead to providing solutions to the current challenges the regional government is being faced with.

The governor of Sulu also expressed his continuing support to the BARMM government under the leadership of the Chief Minister.

“Our message to the Interim Chief Minister, the BTA (Bangsamoro Transition Authority), and all citizens of the BARMM: We are committed to support the peace process; we are committed to support your (Ebrahim) leadership and the BTA […] the success of the regional government is our success,” Tan stressed.
