Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro said earlier the city is ready for the expected over 9,000 participants in the Palaro Pambansa, or National Games, which started in 1948.

In a prelude to the Palaro, organizers of the national event staged the “Larong Pinoy” games with some BARMM athletes and coaches participating on July 28. They included popular traditional games — “Laro ng Lahi” — such as Patintero, Kadang-Kadang, and Tumbang Preso.

Grouped together in Cluster 1 with Regions 1, 2, and 3, BARMM participants won a Bronze Medal in Patintero.

As this developed, Teodoro through the Marikina Public Information Office (PIO) has extended an open invitation to the public for the Opening Ceremonies.

Activities for the Palaro opening which starts at 1:30 p.m. include a parade of participants from Marikina River Park, dragon boat race (Marikina River), unity dance, concert, fireworks display at the Marikina Sports Center (MSC).

There will be no tickets required for the public who wish to watch and witness the activities.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has partnered with Marikina LGU for the Palaro hosting.

Attending public should expect a tight security as the many VIP guests invited include President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., and Vice President and DepEd Secretary Inday Sara Duterte.

Some Bangsamoro government officials, particularly from MBHTE, are also expected to join the opening of Palaro.

“Tara at manuod” (Let’s go and watch), said Teodoro. (✓)
