Celebrating Excellence in Education: BARMM’s Dr. Sadat B. Minandang, a Finalist for the Global Teacher Prize 2023

COTABATO CITY (SDN) — The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) lauded what it called “a monumental achievement” of a Bangsamoro educator.

BARMM’s Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) identified the educator as Dr. Sadat B. Minandang, principal of the Lugay-Lugay Central Elementary School (LLCES), under Cotabato City schools division office (SDO).

The Bangsamoro educator cracked the top 50 finalists of the Global Teacher Prize 2023.

The Varkey Foundation is behind the Global Teacher Prize in collaboration with UNESCO and Dubai Cares. Prize for the winner is US$1 million.

“We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Sadat B. Minandang, School Principal of Lugay-Lugay Central Elementary School, SDO Cotabato City has been chosen as one of the top 50 finalists for the prestigious Global Teacher Prize 2023, in partnership with UNESCO and Dubai Cares,” the MBHTE, headed by Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, says.

Organizers of the Global Teacher Prize 2023 chose the 50 finalists from thousands of nominations coming from many countries.

“This is a monumental achievement, considering that he was selected from a staggering pool of over 7,000 nominations and applications spanning 130 countries worldwide,” the BARMM education ministry’s statement reads.

The MBHTE statement continues:

“As we celebrate Dr. Sadat B. Minandang’s incredible achievement, we also honor the countless educators around the globe who make a profound difference in the lives of their students. Each of the 50 finalists for the Global Teacher Prize 2023 deserves their moment in the spotlight, and we should join together to shine that light brightly.

“Let’s stand together in celebrating the dedication, passion, and excellence in education represented by Dr. Sadat B. Minandang and all the finalists for the Global Teacher Prize 2023. Their work inspires us all, and their impact on generations to come will be immeasurable.”

The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.

According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
