COTABATO CITY — To enhance the Bangsamoro Government’s transparency and moral governance, the Bangsamoro Information Office (BIO) will hold the first-ever Information and Media Summit in Davao City on October 18-20 to deepen alliances with media stakeholders across the region.
The three-day summit will reinforce collaboration between the Bangsamoro Government and those involved in the information and media, provide avenues for discussing pressing issues and topics, and raise communicators’ involvement in the BARMM transition period.
BIO Executive Director Ameen Andrew Alonto emphasized the impact of the upcoming summit on Bangsamoro citizens as the primary clients, consistent with BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Balawag “Al-Hajj Murad” Ebrahim’s call for moral governance.
“Once we get this open line of communication between the government and private media, the Bangsamoro people will benefit because they will be informed of what’s happening both at the local and regional governments,” he stressed.

Promotion of transparency, accountability jibes with Chief Minister’s 12-Point Priority Agenda
“Consequently, they can make informed decisions,” Alonto continued, highlighting the significance of Bangsamoro’s contribution, particularly in honing nation-building.
The summit, which carries the theme “Amplifying Voices, Nurturing the Gains of the Peace Process: The Role of Communicators in the Bangsamoro Region”, will cover the topics on the Bangsamoro Electoral Code, Roles of Information Officers in Moral Governance, Media Literacy and Fact-Checking, and Bangsamoro in Transition.
Furthermore, the summit will be attended by Bangsamoro Government officials, development partners, civil society organizations (CSOs), accredited local media practitioners, Bangsamoro League of Information Officers (BLIO), and Information Summit Technical Working Group (TWG).
Promoting transparency and accountability through the Information and Media Summit aligns with Chief Minister Ebrahim’s primary focus within the Enhanced 12-Point Priority Agenda.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (Johamin Inok/BIO) — (✓)
