COTABATO CITY (SDN) — Perhaps, for the first time, the Bangsamoro government under Chief Minister Ahod B. “Al-Haj Murad” Ebrahim has performed its first graduation ceremony on Turtle Islands, Tawi-Tawi province.
It was a mass graduation on December 27, 2023, for the finishers of BSPTVET-TTPB under the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM-MBHTE). “BSPTVET-TTPB” stands for Bangsamoro Scholarship Program for Free TVET – Tulong ng Tekbok sa Pag-angat ng Bangsamoro organized under the technical education and skills development (MBHTE TESD).
The MBHTE, one of the 15 BARMM ministries, is headed by Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal. Under his stewardship, he has been in many of the component areas and communities of the Bangsamoro region to deliver and distribute much-needed school equipment and education-focused supplies, including for teachers and learners.

The trainees completed their courses with the Technical Vocational Institution TVI) at the Tawi-Tawi Polytechnic College (TTPC), earning the qualifications on Carpentry National Certification (NC) II, Bread and Pastry Production NC II, Electrical Installation & Maintenance, Housekeeping NC II, and in two batches of Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC II. They received their certifications and their respective Training Support Fund for their allowance.
Bangsamoro Director General Ruby A. Andong, Turtle Islands Mayor Mohammad Faizal H. Jamalul, Regional Planning Officer Faida H. Latip, various Regional Office Staff, TVI trainers, and MBHTE-TESD Staff.
At the conclusion of the event, the training graduates expressed their gratitude for the opportunity of joined the training under the MBHTE-TESD of the Bangsamoro government.
MBHTE Provincial Director Dr. Maryam S. Nuruddin also voiced her thanks all those who supported the effort to bring skills training of the MBHTE-TESD on Turtle Islands.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. — EKU/MBHTE (✓)
