COTABATO CITY (SDN) — A new school building worth Php5.466 million has risen at Matampay Elementary School (MES), in the Division of Lanao del Sur II.
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) through the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (BARMM-MBHTE) turned over the building on January 4, the construction of which was subsidized under the 2018 Basic Education Facilities Fund (BEFF).
In relation with this, the MBHTE headed by Education Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal recognized and thanked Sultan Ben Mangigin for his generosity in donating a 5,000-square meter lot for the school building project.
Sultan Mangigin said his “donation is part of his strong commitment to the community’s educational progress.”

With its wide-ranging reform agenda, the MBHTE surely appreciate all the help it can get as it put in place measures to raise the quality of education in the Bangsamoro regional autonomy.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11.
