COTABATO CITY — The Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE) spearheaded a groundbreaking ceremony for the commencement of projects totaling Php21.6 million yesterday, January 24, in the province of Tawi-Tawi.
Headed by Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal, the MBHTE is one of the 15 primary ministries of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM),
These projects, consisting of covered courts with stage and bleacher, are a result of the initiatives of Member of Parliament (MP) Atty. John Anthony “Jet” Lim.
The groundbreaking event took place at Pahut Elementary School, marking the official start of construction for covered courts in various locations.
The projects fall under Lim’s Transitional Development Impact Fund (TDIF) and will be implemented in Datag Bud Elementary School, Languyan, Tawi-Tawi (Covered Court with Stage and Bleachers — Php7,733,700.00), LT Ladja Idanan Elementary School, Sapapa, Tawi-Tawi (Covered Court with Stage – Php4,638,700.00), Pahut Elementary School, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi (Covered Court with Stage – Php4,638,700.00), and Likud Tabawan Elementary School, South Ubian, Tawi-Tawi (Covered Court with Stage – Php4,638,700.00).
Engineer Zubair A. Guiaman, Officer-In-Charge Chief of the Education Facilities Section-ESD, MBHTE, cited the rationale behind the TDIF and highlighted its benefits for the Bangsamoro constituents.
Sheikh Bukhari Camama, speaker of Moral Values Program of the EFS-ESD, MBHTE, expressed gratitude towards the BARMM Government for implementing the beneficial projects.
During the 5th Founding Anniversary of BARMM, Lim commended the decision to hold the groundbreaking activity, emphasizing the significance of the moment.
Dr. Lermalyn A. Jalas-Sangogot, EdD, the school division superintendent of Tawi-Tawi, assured strong support and collaboration, emphasizing a commitment to the delivery of programs and projects for Bangsamoro learners.
MBHTE Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal has continuously emphasized the importance of collective commitment of the education ministry in fostering peace, education, and progress within the Bangsamoro region through its respective programs and initiatives.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted “Yes” in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (✓)
