COTABATO City — On March 7, 2024, Tinindanan Elementary School (TES) marked a significant milestone with the completion of the construction of a one-storey building with two new classrooms.
The turn-over ceremony was conducted by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education under the leadership of Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal through its Education Facilities Sectionย (MBHTE-TES) that was attended by school officials, local government representatives, and MBHTE representatives.
Funded by the Special Education Development Fund (SDF) 2021, the project aimed to address the pressing need for additional classroom space to accommodate the growing number of students in the area. The construction was spearheaded by Ground Level Construction (GLC), with the contract amounting to Php4,432,769.99.
The newly constructed one-story building included modern facilities and a conducive learning environment, providing students with an enhanced educational experience. MBHTE said the addition of the classrooms not only expands the school’s capacity but also underscores the commitment to quality education in the community.
MBHTE Minister Iqbal continues to emphasize that investing in education infrastructure, such as these newly completed classrooms, is a fundamental step towards ensuring that every child has access to quality education in the Bangsamoro region. These facilities not only provide space for learning but also serve as a beacon of hope for the community’s future generations.
Under his leadership at the education ministry, MBHTE has been putting in place various education-related reforms to raise the quality of education in the Bangsamoro region.
Among others, Iqbal’s reform agenda since 2019, included construction of new school buildings in the region’s various schools division offices (SDOs), hiring of teaching and non-teaching personnel, distribution of IT equipment suuch as personal computers (PCs), laptops, tablets, PC monitors, fax machines, printers, Teachers’ Kits, Learners’ Kits, clocks, maps, air fans, school supplies, and others.
The Bangsamoro region, established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area’s (SGA) 63 barangays or villages that voted โYesโ in a plebiscite in February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction.
According to the Philippine Atlas BARMM has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; undivided Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. ย (โ)
